TERPENES

Imagine that you are relaxing outside, completely surrounded by pine trees. take a deep breath in through your nose. Notice how you feel… fresh, awake, alert and focused.

You just recalled a terpene experience!

Terpenes are compounds found in essential oils. They provide flavor and aroma while showcasing an array of therapeutic benefits. When you recalled your experience in the pine trees, you remembered the terpene, pinene, found in conifers. Now, recall the scent of lavender on your bedsheets, on a summers eve. That is the terpene, linalool, relaxing you into sleep.

Nature provides us with over 20,000 different terpenes. Of these, there are over 100 different identified terpenes in the cannabis plant. Cannabis terpenes are no different than other terpenes found in nature.

Cannabis plants are identified by their unique chemical variation, or chemovar (strain). There are many compounds determining each chemovar, a major component being the terpene profile. Each chemovar offers a unique experience, effecting you differently.

As you have learned so far, pinene will awaken you and linalool will calm you. Below, I have listed the most common terpenes found in HOPE, and compiled information from studies and research, showing how each terpene may effect you in its own way.
